Happy Thanksgiving

A few things you maybe didn't know about Thanksgiving....
  • In the United States, people celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November.
  • The first American Thaksgiving was celebrated in 1621 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. A group of people known as Pilgrims had just arrived from England and endured a very difficult winter. An American Indian named Squanto gave the Pilgrims seeds for planting and taught the men to hunt. When the Pilgrims had enough food for the coming winter of the next year thy decided to celebrate with a feast and invited Squanto and his friends. The feast lasted three days. The Pilgrims and Indians played games and showed off their skills with guns and bow and arrow.
  • The first Thanksgiving meal included deer, oysters, boiled pumpkin, corn, and cranberries. What do you eat on Thanksgiving?
  • About 45 million pounds of turkey are eaten every Thanksgiving along with 65 million pounds of sweet potatoes and 80 million pounds of cranberries. For dessert, 55 million pumpkin pies are served.
This festive appetizer was made by some of you in a recent cooking class. Click here for the directions.
Enjoy some old and make some new traditions this Thanksgiving! Watching parades, sharing a meal, thinking about what you are thankful for, watching football, telling someone you care about him/her, shopping on Black Friday, putting up the Christmas decorations.....
