Halloween Dance

We have officially outgrown our space for the annual Halloween Dance and Costume Contest!  Over sixty individuals plus direct support professionals and family members came to Matthias Lot church for this years' fun.  Volunteers from Matthias, We Love St. Charles, and the Tony Glavin Soccer Club, as well as some of our 'regulars' (Pete and Larry) made much work light and kept the dance floor moving and laughing.  You all looked WONDERFUL in your costumes; enjoy the pictures.

"We Love St. Charles" volunteers untangle favors for the dance.

Ghost bags filled with popcorn and candy corn.

Our volunteers went to great heights to decorate!

Tim P. is dressed as "Papa Smurf" and won the prize for 'most original'.

Patrice R.

Lola C.

Doris W. and Sharon W. won for "best combination" as peanut butter and jelly.

Longtime friends Janet H. and Margaret B.; Margaret won for 'funniest'.

Kaja A.

Roxie T.

This guy won for 'scariest'.  I don't know if I should tell you who it really is or leave it a mystery.......

Baseball Fans

Go Cardinals!
Baseball Fans, this is your week!  Congrats to the Cardinals and Red Sox who will play in the World Series which starts Wednesday evening in Boston and airs on Fox.  Click here for the entire World Series schedule.
Cheering for our favorite team is always more fun with friends - call yours (or support someone in calling his/hers) and invite them to come over and watch!  If it was Superbowl I'd suggest you make a friendly bet; but I'm pretty sure we are ALL cheering for the CARDINALS!

Branson Trip

Cindy and Shelley took some of us on a trip to Branson Mo. this weekend Oct. 11th Thru 13th. All of us had fun and a great time together.

Guest Teacher Shares Her Culture with SAS

Yen Yea H., Direct Support Professional at West Adams, shared her love of cooking with us as guest teacher at a recent cooking class.  Native to Liberia, Yen Yea taught us to make Sweet Potato Leaf Soup.  We were able to try some new ingredients and techniques and learn a bit about Liberia too.
A great big THANK YOU to Yen Yea for sharing your time and talent with us.  It was a real treat!

If you would like the directions for Sweet Potato Leaf Soup send Angela an email (it will be easier for me to send it to you as an attachment than to retype it here). curtisa@emmaushomes.org
If you would like to be a guest teacher, mention it to any one of us at SAS!

Fall Festival is this Saturday!

Fall Fun: Scavenger Hunt

Volunteer Pete E. suggested we take advantage of our beautiful campus with another scavenger hunt.  Competition was fierce with a tie for First Place between two teams, self-named "The Winners" and "Westgreen".
"The Winnners", who named themselves this before the hunt even started!
"Westgreen" tied for First Place by finding every single item on the list as well as a "most interesting item" which included mushrooms and a snowman (The Winners).
Part of the Scavenger Hunt was to find a scarecrow and get a team picture with him.

Lola B. is pictured with Morgan, one of two St. Charles High Key Club members who gave us their helping hands.

The Scavenger Hunt was not a race however Greenbough Team completed it the fastest in less than twenty minutes!

The orange flower could be found in front of Garvin Cottage.

Members of the two First Place teams received a flashlight and all other 'hunters' took home a soda.
Thank you for the ideas and props, Pete!
